False Positive Cardiotoxicity Events in Cancer-Related Clinical Trials: Risks Related to Imperfect Noninvasive Parameters
Conclusion: A 3.60% false positive rate in trials where the expected level of toxicity is low suggests that false positives are troubling and may exceed true positive results. Strategies to reduce the number of false positive results include making confirmatory studies mandatory. Evaluating increases along with decreases obtains some estimation of variance.Chemotherapy 2018;63:324 –329 (Source: Chemotherapy)

Overexpression of TEL-MN1 Fusion Enhances Resistance of HL-60 Cells to Idarubicin
Conclusion: Taken together, our results indicated that TEL-MN1 fusion is an oncogene involved in the leukemogenesis process and TEL-MN1 overexpression enhanced resistance of HL-60 cells to idarubicin, which may provide a useful tool for studying the mechanism of leukemogenesis and drug resistance.Chemotherapy 2018;63:308 –314 (Source: Chemotherapy)

A case of otitis externa caused by Schizophyllum commune: An approach to antimicrobial stewardship using Gram staining of otorrhea in a medical clinic
Publication date: Available online 21 March 2019Source: Journal of Infection and ChemotherapyAuthor(s): Masako Maeda, Toshihiko Maeda, Akihiro Nakamura, Masaru KomatsuAbstractRecently, basidiomycete Schizophyllum commune has been reported as a cause of allergic bronchopulmonary mycosis. However, it is rare as a cause of otitis externa. We experienced a very rare case of otitis externa caused by S. commune in a 68-year-old man with a history of chronic otitis media. We performed Gram staining at the...

Publication date: Available online 14 March 2019Source: Journal of Infection and ChemotherapyAuthor(s): Ayako Mizoguchi, Shigemi HitomiAbstractCefotaxime-non-susceptible Haemophilus influenzae has rarely been isolated from clinical specimens. Although several reports have shown that amino acid (AA) alteration in penicillin-binding protein 3 (PBP3), encoded by the ftsI gene, reduces activity of cefotaxime, precise mechanisms conferring the non-susceptibility have been unclear. We analyzed the ftsI...
