BAINBRIDGE, Ga. — A woman with Down syndrome finally fulfilled her dream of becoming an EMT.
WCTV reported that Blair Williams, 25, has always wanted to be an EMT. Williams has been attending EMT classes for the past few months. Last week, she completed her clinical rotation and led a mock emergency call at Bainbridge State College.
She responded to a woman who needed help after falling down the stairs. She got to take the patient to the ambulance and treat her.
"I want to save lives and to help others who are in need," Williams said.
Williams was awarded an honorary graduate certificate.
"You wonder what her life is going to be like and what she will be able to achieve," her mother, Nina McMillian, said. "Her dream was to go to college and we didn't know how that was going to happen."
EMT instructor Charles Avery told the Post-Searchlight that Williams has had a constant smile on her face every step of the way.
"There is no prouder moment in an instructor's life than when we can look at a student and see their dreams come true," Avery said.
