BERGEN, N.Y. — A local post office will be renamed in honor of a fallen volunteer EMT/firefighter who died last year while responding to a call.
A bill that renames the post office was signed by President Obama, and was unanimously passed by the House and Senate.
The Bergen Post Office will now be known as the Barry G. Miller Post Office, reports ABC 13 News.
Miller was responding to a call with two other EMTs when his ambulance collided with a street sweeper. Miller was killed, while the other members of his crew suffered minor injuries.
“This recognition is an important tribute to Barry's service to our community. He dedicated his life to serving others and this will be a permanent reminder of his service to Bergen,” said wife Tracy Miller. “We appreciate New York's lawmakers for working together to make this a reality.”
Miller served as a member of the Bergen Volunteer Fire Department for 32 years, including 10 years as the assistant EMS Chief.
